PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Wholesale Key Accounts Manager is responsible for driving sales growth, customer retention, and profitable business development within the key account wholesale customer channels. The role focuses on building strong customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, increasing market penetration, and ensuring excellent service delivery in this channel of business.
The position will serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers, working closely with supply chain (operations and stock planning), merchandising, and the Regional B2B sales teams to ensure customer satisfaction and sustainable business growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Sales Growth & Revenue Generation
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Grow turnover, gross profit, and basket size within assigned accounts.
- Identify new sales opportunities and develop strategic growth plans for key customers.
- Drive product penetration, promotional participation, and category expansion.
- Negotiate pricing, trading terms, service level agreements, and promotional agreements within approved parameters.
- Monitor customer buying patterns and proactively identify opportunities to increase sales.
2. Key Account Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Conduct regular customer visits and business reviews.
- Develop account plans for strategic customers.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Resolve customer concerns and escalations promptly and professionally.
- Act as the voice of the customer within the business.
3. Business Development
- Identify and secure new wholesale key account customers.
- Prospect and convert potential customers into long-term trading partners.
- Develop channel growth strategies aligned to company objectives.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
- Expand product and service offerings within existing customer portfolios.
4. Customer Service & Relationship Building
- Ensure customers receive exceptional service and support.
- Coordinate with internal Departments / Business Units to resolve service issues.
- Monitor order fulfilment, product availability, and delivery performance.
- Build trust-based partnerships that support long-term growth.
5. Commercial Management
- Monitor account profitability and margin performance.
- Manage debtor risks and support collections where required.
- Analyse sales data and customer trends to improve account performance.
- Ensure compliance with company pricing and credit policies.
6. Reporting & Administration
- Maintain accurate customer records and sales activity reports.
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales performance reports.
- Provide sales forecasts and pipeline updates.
