WATER USE LICENCE AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE OFFICER – Centurion
An established mining and mineral exploration group is seeking an experienced Water Use Licence and Regulatory Compliance Officer to manage water use licence applications and regulatory processes across South Africa.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in preparing, processing and successfully executing Water Use Licence Applications ( WULAs).
- Proven track record in independently managing water use rights and licence applications from preparation through to final execution.
- Strong operational knowledge of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) application adjudication and evaluation processes. Previous employment with the DWS will be highly advantageous.
- Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of South African environmental and mining legislation, including the National Water Act (NWA) , Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) and National Environmental Management Act (NEMA).
- Strong drafting and regulatory liaison skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Afrikaans and other official South African languages will be advantageous.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel independently to DWS regional offices across South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, draft and independently manage water use rights and licence applications through to final execution.
- Monitor application progress and adjudication processes, proactively address departmental queries and facilitate communication with the DWS.
- Act as the primary liaison between the group and the DWS regarding water use licence applications and related regulatory matters.
- Coordinate and manage regulatory enquiries relating to the group’s inter-provincial mining and prospecting operations within the scope of the DWS.
- Ensure applications and supporting documentation comply with applicable water, environmental and mining legislation.
- Identify potential regulatory risks and address application-related challenges.
- Manage multiple applications and strict regulatory deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
