Assistant Financial Manager (Compliance) - National Hotel Group

Assistant Financial Manager (Compliance) required for a National Hotel Group The successful candidate will assist the Finance Team that all legal entities within the hotel group comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. This position manages the submission of required legal documentation and statutory returns. The role also requires conducting regular internal reviews and company audits to ensure compliance and execute corrective actions. Core Activities Tax Returns : Prepare and submit relevant South African Revenue Service (SARS) returns, including VAT, Provisional Tax, Payroll Tax, and semi-annual Employee Tax Reconciliations. VAT Reviews : Perform monthly reviews (similar to IT14SD) to ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of VAT submissions. SARS Audits : Attend to SARS requests for supporting documentation, ensuring queries are completed and cases are closed. Tax Status : Verify tax compliance status, resolve issues, and report findings to senior management. CIPC Returns : Prepare and submit annual company returns to the CIPC. Stats SA : Compile and submit required questionnaires and surveys to Stats SA. B-BBEE Compliance : Complete and submit B-BBEE related documentation to verification agents. Compliance Drive : Maintain valid company compliance documents, including bank confirmation letters, tax clearance certificates, CIPC documentation, and B-BBEE certificates. CSD Management : Maintain the company profile on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and manage registration for new business units. External Audit : Prepare, review, and submit files and documentation for the annual financial audit. Audit Queries : Manage and resolve external audit queries timeously. Financial Statements : Prepare or review audited annual financial statements to ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting standards. Contract Calculations : Calculate unit holder rent and expenses in line with underlying commercial contracts. Banking Security : Review and approve new bank beneficiaries. Licence Management : Maintain a register of operational licences (including liquor, TV, and fleet licences) to ensure accurate renewals. FICA Compliance : Submit FICA documentation to banking institutions upon request. Managing Work and Goals Reporting : Generate and submit compliance reports in a timely manner to meet all legal deadlines. Tracking : Document project and regular work progress accurately. Execution : Manage and execute assigned financial tasks and special projects. Problem Solving : Analyse information, evaluate results, and suggest solutions to solve regulatory problems. Knowledge and Experience Environment : Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar compliance or finance role within a large, multi-entity organisation. Industry Context : Experience navigating a fast-paced, dynamic hospitality or retail work environment is highly advantageous. Technical Knowledge : Strong knowledge of South African Tax Laws and IFRS. Advisory Support : Technical expertise to provide financial compliance support to staff inside and outside of the finance discipline. Systems : Advanced ability to use financial software and computer systems to process data, analyse information, and design reports. Risk Assessment : Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory risk. Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional presentation skills. Collaboration : Ability to work independently and collaboratively across different business units and stakeholders. Qualifications Education : Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Articles : Completed accounting articles. Professional Body : Active registration with an accredited accounting body (e.g., SAICA, SAIPA, ACCA).
