Underwriter - Commercial Lines

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to join a dynamic underwriting team and play a key role in managing profitable commercial insurance portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite commercial insurance policies, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy amendments.
• Prepare and review quotations for commercial clients.
• Evaluate risks and make underwriting decisions in line with company guidelines and mandates.
• Negotiate renewal terms and ensure retention targets are achieved.
• Support business growth by collaborating with sales and stakeholder teams.
• Manage policy administration accurately and efficiently.
• Arrange and monitor surveys and survey requirements where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Resolve client queries and provide exceptional service delivery.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric. 
• NQF Level 5 Qualification in Short-Term Insurance. 
• Regulatory Examination (RE) Certification. 
• Commercial Lines Class of Business certification. 
• DOFA confirmation.
• Minimum 5 years' commercial underwriting experience. 
• Proven experience underwriting commercial insurance policies, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy amendments. 
• Experience working for an insurer or broker with delegated underwriting authority. 
• Ability to assess commercial risks and make binding underwriting decisions in accordance with underwriting guidelines. 
• Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products and the financial services industry. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 
• Experience working on the Cardinal 360 (C360) system will be advantageous.
