Stellenbosch University’s Department of Social Work, based in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, is one of South Africa’s leading social work education programmes. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in social work and is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and social impact.
The department is seeking a Lecturer to join its team at the Stellenbosch Campus . The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching in the theoretical programme, coordinate a year group in the practice education programme, and engage in postgraduate supervision, research, and publication.

Job Description
The Lecturer will be responsible for:
- Undergraduate teaching in the theoretical programme
- Coordinating a year group in the practice education programme
- Research and publication
- Participating in own and departmental social impact activities
- Administrative tasks associated with the mentioned duties
Inherent Criteria
- PhD in Social Work or proof of registration for a PhD at an advanced stage of completion
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions
- Proof of accredited research publications and conference presentations
Recommendations
- Knowledge of the BSW Standards of the Social Work Curriculum in South Africa as stipulated by the CHE.
- Experience of supervising undergraduate students in a social work practice education programme.
- Knowledge and experience of online teaching and learning platforms.
- Complete academic curriculum vitae including names and email addresses of at least three references
- List of at least three contactable referees
- One to two-page cover letter discussing experience, research and teaching plans, and potential contribution to the Department
