8T Truck-mounted Crane Operator

ROLE PURPOSE
To safely and efficiently operate the company's 8-tonne truck-mounted crane for material handling, lifting and installation on site. The crane is part of the Owner's material handling equipment procured for the construction project. It will carry over into the operational phase, where it will support Maintenance and Stores. The Operator will ensure all lifting and transport activities are carried out in line with company safety, health and environment (SHE) standards and statutory requirements.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.
• Operate the 8T truck-mounted crane to load, offload, lift, move and place materials, equipment and components on site.
• Carry out pre-use inspections and daily checks on the crane and truck, and record findings in the inspection checklist and logbook.
• Read and apply load charts, and confirm load weights, lifting radius and crane capacity before every lift.
• Follow approved lift plans, permits to work and safe work procedures for all lifting operations.
• Work closely with riggers, banksmen and signalmen to ensure safe and coordinated lifts.
• Check slings, shackles, chains and other lifting gear before use, and remove damaged or out-of-date equipment from service.
• Set up the crane correctly on site, including outrigger placement, ground assessment and barricading of the lifting area.
• Drive the truck safely on site and public roads, and make sure all loads are properly secured during transport.
• Support construction, installation, maintenance and Stores activities with material handling as required.
• Report defects, breakdowns, incidents and near misses immediately to the Supervisor.
• Carry out basic operator maintenance, such as greasing, fluid level checks and cleaning, and assist mechanics during services and repairs.
• Keep accurate records of operating hours, fuel use, lifts completed and equipment condition.
• Take part in toolbox talks, safety meetings, risk assessments and training as required.
• Keep the crane, truck and work area clean, tidy and safe at all times.
• Assist with the transfer of material handling activities from the project phase into the operating phase.
• Follow all company policies, internal controls, SHE rules and statutory requirements.
