Environmental Officer - Mining Compliance

About the Role Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Officer to ensure regulatory compliance and promote sustainable practices within their mining operations near Stellenbosch .
This role is vital for managing environmental impact assessments, implementing mitigation measures, and overseeing environmental monitoring programs.
You will work closely with site management, regulatory bodies, and the community to uphold the company's environmental stewardship commitments.
This is a key position for safeguarding the environment and maintaining the company's social license to operate.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement environmental management plans and programs.
Conduct regular environmental audits and site inspections to ensure compliance with legislation.
Manage and monitor environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and associated reporting.
Oversee waste management, water management, and rehabilitation activities.
Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and community representatives on environmental matters.
Investigate and report on environmental incidents, recommending corrective actions.
Requirements Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
Experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency in environmental data analysis and reporting.
