The Data Modeler manages the flow of information between departments through the use of relational databases. Develops data models to meet the needs of the organization’s information systems. Being a Data Modeler stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data. Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy. In addition, Data Modeler requires a bachelor’s degree. Typically reports to a manager. Being a Data Modeler gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Working as a Data Modeler typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Data Modeller to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate business requirements into data modelling requirements;
  • Design data models that meet the business requirements and align with the agreed architecture framework;
  • Document required data lineage for identified data;
  • Ensure data modeling deliverables are delivered according to a project plan and budget to meet a commitment to stakeholders;
  • The design required dataflow diagrams;
  • Ensure all data modeling activities and deliverables are aligned to the development methodology and the data modeling principles and standards;
  • Design and collate dataflow diagrams outlining the flow of data across systems and interfaces;
  • Use data modeling tools to fulfill data modeling deliverables;
  • Liaise with SMEs, Data Stewards, IT and other stakeholders to design and collate data models;
  • Liaise with SMEs to define source to target mappings;
  • Create or define metadata for systems, processes and data models;
  • Liaise with SMEs, Data Stewards, IT and other stakeholders to design and collate dataflow diagrams;
  • Utilize Data profiling reports produced by Data Quality professionals, to gather information about data that needs to be modeled;
  • Define, review and ratify Enterprise Data Standards;
  • Identify opportunities to improve or enhance processes.

Requirements:

  • A good understanding of data and information management practices; a firm understanding of DMBOK would be advantageous;
  • BSc Computer Science / Information Systems;
  • BTech in Information Technology;
  • Design;
  • Data Quality;
  • Business Analysis;
  • 5 years plus and/or relevant industry experience as well as experienced in the Data Modelling discipline;
  • Understanding of banking and financial services;
  • SQL;
  • Dataflow design;
  • Knowledge of technical and business metadata;
  • Data Modelling;
  • Experience working with RDBMS platforms (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, Netezza, Teradata, DB2);
  • Databases;
