Our company is looking for a Database Administrator to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Create instrumentation/monitoring solutions to gain insight into existing application and database performance and to understand emerging issues;
  • Respond to outages and alerts quickly to ensure public and internal availability of our online services and infrastructure;
  • Serve as an escalation point for any defined database issues regarding performance, security, or ongoing maintenance;
  • Assist in formalising and updating database policies, procedures, and technical standards, including disaster recovery planning;
  • Help architect and implement solutions that solve complicated application challenges;
  • Optimize database performance;
  • Support the infrastructure through basic Linux/Windows administration and system automation;
  • Provide immediate response to critical RDBMS incident and effectively communicate while providing world class troubleshooting;
  • Automate various DBA tasks;
  • Maintain and create automation and deployment software and tools;
  • Serve as a knowledge leader and mentor for technical teams;
  • Refine processes to continue our focus on performance, availability and security;
  • Essential Database administration — install, configure, upgrade, backup, and monitor databases;
  • Proactively identify and solution operational risks;
  • Work with developers during application development life cycle in the design and planning of schema, tables, indexes, procedures and functions.

Requirements:

  • Worked in a Global Team;
  • Self-managed with emphasis on prioritization;
  • Experience in Agile is advantages;
  • Can keep a cool head under pressure;
  • Clear communication;
  • Time Management skills;
  • 2 years of experience in Cloud Database Administration, specifically OpenStack, AWS and Azure;
  • Must have a structured approach to troubleshooting;
  • Relevant College Degree in Computer Science with emphasis on Data Management;
  • 7 years of experience in large scale database estates, involving several offices and data centres in different countries;
  • AWS Associate Architecture Certification;
  • Azure Fundamentals Certification;
  • Relevant Database Management Course Certification;
  • Matric Certificate coupled with either a National Diploma or Degree in Computing / Information Technology.
