Prepares big data, implements data models and develops database to support the business solutions. Additionally, Data Scientist I may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Data Scientist I work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Data Scientist I typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective communication and presentation to clients and internal stakeholders;
  • Documenting and general maintenance of predictive models and products;
  • Prototyping new predictive models and products with a philosophy of quick turnaround and failing fast;
  • Implement and evaluate machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics and process optimization up to visualization of results;
  • Assist with setup of data science model development framework;
  • Ensure continuous enhancements and quality of the technology and methods applied;
  • Develop data models and algorithms for data preparation, exploration, mining and modelling;
  • Design, implement, and validate data systems and solutions;
  • Ensure high quality results (statistical and technical) for the deliverable of the Innovation Hub;
  • Guide and mentor junior team members;
  • Flexibility to support hands-on data engineering and data cleansing activities where needed;
  • Reveal hidden business opportunities, quantify risks, and optimally deploy company resources to grow profitably;
  • Interactions with various stakeholders to understand business needs;
  • Explore and visualize data to understand the features that have relevance or are meaningful to the business;
  • Collaboration in agile teams to design, implement and deploy end to end data science solutions.

  • BSc Actuarial Science;
  • A working knowledge of predictive models and associated techniques;
  • Experience in Machine Learning, Big Data and AI;

  • Interpersonal Skills;
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • R, SAS, ETL, Tableau, Python;
  • Min 5 years’ experience managing/leading a team;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise with a sense of urgency and work under pressure to tight deadlines;
