Assistant State Attorney (LP3-LP4) - State Attorney, Durban Ref No: 26/31/KZN

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is the justice department of the South African government. The department provides administrative and financial support to the court system and the judiciary (which are constitutionally independent of the executive), oversees the National Prosecuting Authority, provides legal advice and representation to organs of state, and facilitates law reform. The political head of the department is the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, who is supported by a Deputy Minister of JusticeREQUIREMENTS : An NQF level 7 qualification in Law / LLB as recognised by SAQA. Four (4) year recognized legal qualification; Admission as an Attorney; At least 2 years appropriate post qualification legal / litigation experience; A valid driver's license. Skills and Competencies: Computer literacy; Legal research and drafting; Dispute resolution; Case flow management; Strategic and conceptual orientation; Communication skills (written and verbal). DUTIES :

Handle litigation and appeals in the High Courts, Magistrate's Court, Labour Courts, Land Claims Court and CCMA; Draft and/or settle all types of agreements on behalf of the various clients; Render legal opinions and advice; Handle all forms of arbitration, including inter-departmental arbitration and debt collection. Provide effective people management.
