FLEET COMPLIANCE AND DRIVER TRAINER

TRANSPORT MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY
To provide hands-on operational, compliance, and technical oversight of the company fleet and drivers. This role is responsible for ensuring daily vehicle roadworthiness, improving driver behaviour and vehicle care standards, reducing preventable damages and breakdowns, and supporting overall transport compliance. The role combines fleet inspections, driver coaching, safety compliance, and preventative maintenance support to improve fleet reliability, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall transport efficiency.RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle Condition & Fleet Reliability- Conduct daily physical truck inspections to ensure roadworthiness
- Check vehicle cleanliness, condition, and safety standards
- Monitor tyres, lights, mirrors, leaks, and visible damage
- Ensure drivers complete accurate pre-trip inspections
- Identify and address defects before vehicles leave site
- Liaise with workshops and service providers on repairs
- Track recurring mechanical issues and recommend solutions
- Support preventative maintenance planning and scheduling
- Monitor vehicle misuse and enforce proper handling standards
- Train drivers on proper vehicle operation and handling
- Conduct on-road evaluations and driver ride-alongs
- Conduct toolbox talks and refresher training sessions
- Train and onboard new drivers
- Assess driver competency before vehicle allocation
- Reinforce company policies and road safety requirements
- Ensure compliance with all transport and safety regulations
- Monitor driver licence and PDP validity
- Conduct incident and accident investigations
- Assist with accident reporting and documentation
- Ensure all safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers) is compliant
- Perform spot checks on vehicles and driver behaviour
- Monitor telematics systems and camera footage for risk trends
- Support disciplinary processes related to unsafe driving or negligence
- Reduce avoidable repair and maintenance costs
- Identify driver-related damages and recurring issues
- Improve tyre lifespan and fleet maintenance practices
- Reduce fuel wastage through driver coaching
- Monitor excessive idling and harsh driving behaviour
- Improve vehicle uptime and operational reliability
- Standardise inspection and reporting procedures
REQUIREMENTS
- 3–5 years’ experience in transport or fleet operations
- Strong mechanical knowledge of commercial vehicles
- Experience working with drivers in an operational environment
- Knowledge of road transport legislation and compliance standards
- Strong communication and reporting skills
- Valid Code 14 driver’s licence
- Technical background
- Experience with telematics and fleet monitoring systems
