Key Responsibilities
Lead the electrical design process for projects, from conceptualization through to detailed design documentation.
Develop and oversee the creation of electrical system layouts, schematics, single-line diagrams, and specifications.
Ensure designs comply with all applicable codes, standards (e.g., SANS, NEC), and client requirements.
Collaborate closely with clients, architects, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders using virtual platforms.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior electrical designers and engineers.
Review design work performed by team members for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
Select appropriate electrical equipment and components based on project needs and performance requirements.
Manage design schedules and resource allocation within the remote engineering team.
Stay current with the latest advancements in electrical design technologies and sustainable design practices.
Conduct virtual design reviews and present design concepts to stakeholders.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical systems design, with at least 4 years in a lead or supervisory role.
Proven expertise in designing electrical systems for commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.
Proficiency in industry-standard design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP).
Strong knowledge of power distribution, lighting, low voltage systems (fire alarm, security), and building codes.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, tailored for remote team collaboration.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff effectively from a distance.
Self-motivated and highly organized, with excellent time management skills.
Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment is highly preferred.
Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is a significant advantage.
