Our client is a growing organisation seeking a hands-on Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. This role sits at the heart of the finance function and is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, reconciliations, reporting, and controls across the business.

This is not a Chartered Accountant position. Instead, we are looking for a practical accounting professional who thrives in a technology-driven environment and enjoys improving processes through automation and AI.
A key focus of the role is leveraging AI and automation tools to streamline accounting processes, reduce manual workloads, and improve efficiency. The successful candidate will play an important role in transforming traditional accounting activities into automated workflows, enabling greater focus on review, analysis, exception management, and business support.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day accounting activities for the business.
• Prepare and maintain monthly accounting records and reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end close processes.
• Prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review transactions to ensure accurate recording and classification.
• Process accruals, prepayments, and other month-end adjustments.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Maintain complete and accurate supporting documentation.
• Assist with management reporting and financial analysis.
• Perform accounting-related activities associated with the Loan Management System.
• Reconcile LMS activity to the accounting system and bank accounts.
• Review loan transactions, repayments, fees, interest, and other loan-related activity.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between the LMS and accounting records.
• Assist with monthly reporting and reconciliation of the loan portfolio.
• Improve and automate LMS accounting processes where possible.
• Manage the accounts payable process from invoice receipt to payment.
• Review invoices for accuracy, coding, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate supplier records.
• Assist with payment runs and supplier reconciliations.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive AP processes.
• Utilise AI and automation tools to improve accounting workflows.
• Build automated reconciliation, review, and reporting processes.
• Assist in automating recurring accounting and finance activities.
• Develop systems focused on exception reporting and quality control.
• Continuously identify opportunities to eliminate, simplify, or automate manual processes.
• Document and implement scalable finance processes and controls.

Job Experience and Skills Required

• Accounting degree with 3+ years relevant accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Experience with monthly accounting processes and reconciliations.
• Accounts payable experience.
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Experience with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or similar.
• Experience within a financial services environment or with a Loan Management System would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
• Strong interest in AI, automation, and process improvement.
• Comfortable learning and implementing new technologies.
