Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records in accordance with professional standards and data protection legislation.
- Conduct community outreach and awareness programmes on social issues such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV.
- Prepare professional reports and recommendations for courts, parole boards, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Develop and implement individualised intervention and care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and other professionals.
- Provide therapeutic counselling and emotional support to individuals, families, and groups facing life challenges.
- Facilitate access to social services including grants, housing, healthcare, and other support programmes.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation including the Children's Act, Older Persons Act, and Domestic Violence Act.
- For social auxiliary worker roles, a certificate in social auxiliary work and registration with the SACSSP at the appropriate level.
- A minimum of two to three years of experience in social work practice in the relevant field of service.
- Emotional resilience and the ability to manage the stress associated with working with traumatised and vulnerable individuals.
- A bachelor's degree in social work and registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions for social worker positions.
- A valid driver's licence is often required for home visits and community outreach work.
- Excellent assessment and report writing skills to produce professional documentation for courts and other authorities.
