Business Unit Manager

Our client is seeking a dynamic and commercially astute Business Unit Manager to lead the KwaZulu-Natal business unit. This senior leadership position offers an opportunity for an experienced engineering or built environment professional to take ownership of operational performance, project delivery, profitability, business development, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall operations, performance, and profitability of the KwaZulu-Natal business unit.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and ensure successful project delivery.
- Drive business development, client relationship management, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Oversee budgets, financial performance, and business sustainability.
- Manage contracts, risk, compliance, and quality systems.
- Provide oversight of project implementation and technical delivery.
- Mentor and develop staff while promoting skills development and high-performance teams.
- Support strategic planning and the continued growth of the business unit.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, project teams, and industry partners.
- Report to the Chief Operating Officer.
Requirements
- BSc, BEng, BTech Engineering, Built Environment, or Project Management qualification.
- Professional registration with ECSA, SACPCMP, or a recognised professional body within the Built Environment sector.
- 8–10 years' experience as a Senior Engineer, Project Manager, Senior Technologist, or similar.
- At least 5 years' middle-management experience.
- 3–5 years' senior management and people-management experience.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong financial management, commercial, and business development capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of construction industry regulations and contracts.
- Strong project and programme management expertise.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
- Strategic mindset with proven operational and commercial acumen.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
Advantageous
- Postgraduate qualification in the Built Environment.
- Honours or Master's degree in Engineering.
- Postgraduate qualification in Project or Programme Management.
- Master's degree in Business Leadership.
- 10–15 years' industry experience within engineering, project/programme management, the Built Environment, or mining.
- 5–10 years' senior management experience.
