The road is your office with a long-haul freight fleet based in Johannesburg CBD, and the load gets there because of you. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.
The site is in Johannesburg CBD; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.
What you'll actually do
- Log driving hours and take the required rest breaks
- Drive planned routes and stop only at approved truck stops
- Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
- Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips
- Report breakdowns, delays and incidents to the controller immediately
- Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
- Deliver to customers and get proof-of-delivery signed and stamped
What you need
- Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
- Medically fit, including eyesight
- Clean driving record with no serious accidents
- At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
- Passport for cross-border routes
Helpful, not essential
- Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
- Defensive driving course
- Dangerous goods training certificate
