Information Security Engineer

About the RoleOur client, a leading manufacturing company in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga , is seeking a skilled Information Security Engineer to enhance and maintain their security infrastructure.
This role focuses on the technical implementation and management of security solutions designed to protect the organization's networks, systems, and data from cyber threats.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with various security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and SIEM solutions.
This is a hybrid position, offering the flexibility to work partially from home and partially from our Nelspruit office.
You will collaborate with IT teams to design, deploy, and manage security controls, ensuring they are effective and up-to-date.
The position requires a strong technical aptitude, a proactive approach to security, and excellent problem-solving skills.
You will play a critical role in defending the company's digital assets in the diverse industrial landscape of Mpumalanga .
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, configure, and manage security solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and endpoint security software.Monitor security systems and analyze security alerts to detect and respond to threats.Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify security weaknesses.Develop and maintain security documentation, including network diagrams, security policies, and procedures.Assist in the development and execution of incident response plans.Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to ensure security is integrated into system design and deployment.Stay informed about the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies.Provide technical support and guidance on information security matters.Ensure security solutions comply with relevant industry standards and company policies.RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in information security engineering or a similar technical role.Proficiency with network security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs) and endpoint security solutions.Experience with SIEM tools for log analysis and event correlation.Understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and common security vulnerabilities.Scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation are a plus.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, or CEH are desirable.Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, including regular attendance at our Nelspruit office.BenefitsCompetitive annual salary of R .
