Clean really matters at a private hospital in Johannesburg CBD; here it stops infections spreading. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The work, day to day
- Mop spills of blood or fluids using the spill kit
- Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
- Take soiled linen to the sluice room and bring clean linen back
- Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
- Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
- Disinfect bed rails, call bells and bedside lockers
- Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward
What you need
- Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
- Calm under pressure in busy wards
- Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
- Respectful and discreet around patients
Nice if you have
- Knowledge of healthcare waste handling rules
- Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare
