This underground coal colliery near Kuruman needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.
The site is in Kuruman; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.
The work, day to day
- Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
- Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
- Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
- Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
- Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
You'll need
- Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
- Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
- Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
Helpful, not essential
- Experience in trackless mechanised sections
- Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
