If you thrive on solving complex challenges, driving innovation and delivering frontend excellence, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact.What you'll do:Frontend Architecture and Technical DirectionHelp shape frontend architecture and establish patterns that can be used across the teamMake technical decisions and clearly communicate the reasoning and trade-offs behind themDesign frontend applications and architecture at scale, thinking beyond individual features to the wider platformContribute to the ongoing frontend rewrite and the long-term technical direction of the platformIdentify technical risks, dependencies and areas of technical debt, and drive their resolutionAdvanced Frontend Development and DeliveryDesign, build and maintain complex frontend applications using ReactTake ownership of larger technical initiatives and projects from initial idea through to deliveryWork closely with other engineers to deliver larger pieces of functionalityWork effectively within large or complex codebasesLearn and contribute to the broader technology stack as the team moves toward full-stack engineeringCode Quality and Engineering StandardsReview code and ensure adherence to standards, design patterns and best practicesHelp improve development practices, code quality and application performanceInvestigate difficult technical problems and drive them through to resolutionWork with backend engineers and APIs to ensure a clean boundary between frontend and backend systemsTechnical Leadership and MentorshipProvide practical technical guidance to other engineersMentor and help intermediate engineers work through problemsTake responsibility for a technical area so the wider team can focus on deliveryBring and articulate technical opinions, while remaining open to alternative approachesContribute to technical discussions and knowledge-sharing across the teamQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fieldRelevant certifications in frontend or web development technologiesYour Expertise:Around 7+ years' professional software development experienceCommunication skills (technical and non-technical audiences)Strong hands-on experience with ReactJSInterpersonal and relationship management skillsExperience designing and working with frontend architecture at scaleAdvanced analytical skillsExperience working with APIs and backend servicesAdvanced problem-solving skillsExperience with testing, performance and maintainabilityAbility to make technical decisions independently and explain the trade-offsStrong Git and code review experienceCoaching and mentoring skillsExperience taking ownership of projects from initial idea through to deliveryTechnical leadershipJava and Spring experience would be beneficial, particularly for full-stack developmentStrong JavaScript and/or TypeScript knowledgeStrong understanding of component architecture, state management and application structureDeep understanding of frontend architecture and scalable design practicesKnowledge of integrating frontend applications with APIs and backend servicesStrong understanding of testing, performance and maintainability principlesUnderstanding of version control and code review practicesAwareness of technical risk, dependencies and technical debt managementUnderstanding of modern engineering practices within a delivery-focused teamOther information applicable to the opportunity:Contract positionLocation: Stellenbosch
