To process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system and assist customers with product selection by providing knowledgeable advice, a retail group in George, Western Cape is seeking a Shop Assistant.
Training is practical and ongoing rather than a once-off exercise. You will find a workplace that respects your time and your contribution. A safety-first, quality-driven approach underpins everything the team does. Suitably qualified candidates are invited to submit their applications.
The role includes weekend, public-holiday, and month-end trading periods typical of retail.
Responsibilities
- Open and close the store following security procedures including cashing up, locking up, and setting alarms.
- Merchandise stock on shelves and displays according to planograms and visual standards, ensuring shelves are fully faced and tidy.
- Monitor sales performance and implement initiatives to meet or exceed daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.
- Receive, unpack, and price incoming stock deliveries, checking quantities against delivery notes and reporting discrepancies.
- Conduct regular stock counts and cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy and identify shrinkage issues promptly.
- Handle customer returns and exchanges professionally, adhering to company policies while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- A minimum of one to three years of retail experience with proven customer service skills in a store environment.
- A genuine passion for customer service with the ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally.
- For management roles, proven experience in leading a retail team and driving sales to achieve targets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with customers and team members.
- A Grade 12 certificate is the minimum requirement; a retail or business-related qualification is advantageous.
