Process Development Scientist - Chemical Engineering

About the Role Our client is seeking a skilled Process Development Scientist with a strong background in Chemical Engineering to join their team in Richards Bay .
This role is essential for optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the production of advanced materials.
You will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing pilot-scale experiments to improve efficiency, yield, and safety of manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will possess a keen analytical mind and a passion for process innovation in a demanding industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities Design and execute pilot-scale experiments to evaluate and optimize chemical processes, focusing on yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness.
Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality and operational safety.
Analyze experimental data, troubleshoot process issues, and recommend data-driven solutions for improvement.
Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and provide technical support for full-scale production.
Collaborate with R&D chemists, engineers, and production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and integration.
Prepare detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical reports.
Requirements Master's or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience in process development, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical or materials industry.
Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
Experience with pilot plant operations and hazard analysis (e.g., HAZOP).
Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for effective collaboration in Richards Bay .
