The Field Support Technician will install, configure, and upgrade operating systems, applications, and drivers, receive, log, and categorise support requests from end users via phone, email, and diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
You will be based at the Germiston operation in Gauteng. The team looks after its own and expects the same in return. Training is practical and ongoing rather than a once-off exercise. You will work alongside an experienced and supportive team in a professional setting. If you tick the boxes below, we want to hear from you.
The role carries deadline-driven reporting cycles, particularly around month-end and year-end.
Responsibilities
- Receive, log, and categorise support requests from end users via phone, email, and the IT service management system.
- Provide one-on-one and small group training to end users on IT systems, applications, and best practices.
- Create and maintain knowledge base articles and user guides to enable self-service and reduce recurring support requests.
- Manage user accounts and access permissions in Active Directory, email systems, and other enterprise applications.
- Set up and deploy new computer equipment including imaging, software installation, and physical deployment to user desks.
- Install, configure, and upgrade operating systems, applications, and drivers on end-user computing devices.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues on desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices within agreed service levels.
Requirements
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues methodically and think logically under pressure.
- CompTIA A+ and N+ certifications are strongly preferred, and Microsoft or ITIL certifications are advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users patiently.
- For field support roles, a valid driver's licence and own reliable transport are essential.
- A minimum of one to three years of experience in an IT support or helpdesk role in a corporate environment.
- Good understanding of computer hardware components, networking fundamentals, and common enterprise software applications.
- A diploma or degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent certifications.
