About the role
Sea Harvest is one of South Africa's leading fishing and food companies, with a proud heritage and a reputation for quality that reaches tables around the world. Our Procurement Department at South Arm, V&A Waterfront, is looking for a sharp, commercially minded Procurement Officer to buy the goods and services that keep our maintenance department running.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Award orders for maintenance work in conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendents.
- Interpret and compare technical quotes, and negotiate pricing based on quotes and work done.
- Impose penalties in line with agreed terms where required.
- Analyse spend and improve the sourcing process to maximise quality of work and minimise cost.
- Select and source from suppliers in line with Preferential Procurement targets.
- Follow up on outstanding orders and resolve account queries.
- Stay fully conversant with current market prices of all items required.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- BCom degree or equivalent; a technical qualification is an advantage.
- At least 5 years' experience in a senior buyer capacity within a related industry.
- Exposure to import terms and conditions.
- Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills.
- Proven supplier relationship management experience.
- Superior customer service and strong administrative skills.
- Excellent analytical, planning and decision-making ability, with the skill to read, interpret and compile reports.
- Computer literacy across MS Office, with high proficiency in MS Excel.
- The ability to engage all levels of management and suppliers, working both independently and as part of a team.
