Our client, an automotive workshop in Kroonstad, Free State, is looking for a skilled Auto Electrician to diagnose and repair vehicle electrical systems. You will trace wiring faults, install and programme vehicle electronics, test alternators and starter motors, and use diagnostic scan tools. Deep knowledge of modern vehicle electrical architecture is required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed including test results, materials used, and time spent for job costing and compliance.
- Issue Certificates of Compliance after completing installations or repairs, verifying work meets regulatory requirements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to plan installations and troubleshoot circuit problems.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergencies during and outside normal hours as part of a standby rotation.
- Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and semi-skilled assistants, ensuring they work safely and competently.
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on electrical infrastructure including thermal imaging of panels and testing protective devices.
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to systematically diagnose faults and identify root causes rather than just symptoms.
- For solar roles, demonstrated experience in photovoltaic system design and installation with relevant solar-specific certification.
- A wireman's licence issued by the Department of Employment and Labour and electrical contractor registration where required.
- A valid driver's licence with ability to travel to client sites as required, often carrying tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment technical manuals.
- Thorough knowledge of SANS 10142 wiring code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as applied to electrical work.
- A recognised trade certificate in electrical engineering or national diploma in electrical engineering from a registered institution.
