About the RoleOur client is seeking a seasoned Chief Mechanical Engineer to lead the maintenance and management of their extensive mobile mining fleet near Polokwane .
This senior technical role is essential for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of all heavy-duty mining equipment.
You will oversee a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, manage maintenance budgets, implement preventative maintenance strategies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a critical leadership position within a major mining operation in Limpopo, impacting productivity and operational efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the mechanical engineering department responsible for the maintenance and repair of the mobile mining fleet.
Develop and implement comprehensive preventative and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and lifespan.
Oversee workshop operations, ensuring efficient use of resources, tools, and spare parts.
Manage the departmental budget, controlling costs and ensuring efficient expenditure.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations related to maintenance activities.
Mentor and develop the maintenance team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement proactive solutions.
RequirementsBEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Professional registration (PrEng) with ECSA is highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 7 years focused on heavy mobile equipment maintenance in the mining or construction industry.
Proven experience in leading and managing large technical teams.
Strong knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems in mining equipment.
Proficiency in maintenance management systems (CMMS) and diagnostic tools.
Excellent leadership, communication, financial management, and problem-solving skills.
