Senior Trader - remote

We are seeking a Senior Trader to take ownership of our trading desk across forex and arbitrage products. This is a commercial, sales-driven trading role: you will be responsible for driving trading revenue and volumes, negotiating hard and driving trading strategy to maximise the opportunities available, and pushing the team to perform at its best. You will stay close to the markets and share that insight with clients through our market updates and newsletters. The ideal candidate is hungry to grow revenue, assertive and composed under pressure, takes initiative without waiting to be asked, and is comfortable taking a senior role within the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue, Markets and Leadership

• Take full ownership of trading revenue and volume targets across forex and arbitrage, and drive growth through your own initiative.
• Bring a sales-driven, commercial approach to trading: negotiate hard with counterparties, OTC desks and liquidity providers, and drive strategy to make the most of every opportunity available.
• Grow volumes by building and developing client relationships, following up on leads and identifying new trading opportunities and counterparties.
• Keep a deep, current understanding of the market by following USD/ZAR, global FX, crypto markets, macroeconomic data and regulatory developments, and use it to inform trading strategy and client communication.
• Write and contribute to market updates and newsletters for clients, turning market news and analysis into clear, engaging commentary that builds client confidence and drives trading activity.
• Own the desk's trading strategy: set the approach, review performance and adjust it as market conditions change.
• Take a senior role on the desk: push the team to perform better, follow up firmly with team members, counterparties and banking partners, and hold everyone to a high standard.
• Support and guide junior traders on execution, risk and market understanding.
• Be available outside standard working hours when markets, counterparties or client needs require it.

Arbitrage

• Monitor price differentials between offshore and local cryptocurrency exchanges, as well as fluctuations in USD/ZAR, to identify and capitalise on trading opportunities.
• Negotiate with crypto OTC desks and liquidity providers to secure favourable pricing and terms.
• Execute purchasing and selling of cryptocurrencies.
• Purchase currency via banking systems.
• Accurately record and maintain trading records.
• Lead the development of trading plans with the team and make sure they are executed.

Forex

• Execute the buying or selling of foreign currency as per client requests.
• Build strong client relationships, understand their forex needs and grow the volume they trade with us.
• Deliver forex quotes to clients through telephone communication.
• Collaborate with Account Managers to ensure prompt fulfilment of client requests.

Qualifications and Experience

• Ideally a tertiary degree in a Mathematical/Financial discipline.
• Matric certificate.
• 3+ years of trading experience in forex, crypto or financial markets.
• A proven track record of driving trading revenue and growing volumes, ideally in a client-facing or sales-oriented trading role.

Skills

• A sales-driven, commercial mindset, with strong negotiation skills and a genuine hunger to grow revenue.
• Excellent written communication, with the ability to produce clear, engaging market commentary for clients. Experience writing market updates or newsletters is an advantage.
• Strong, current understanding of FX and crypto markets and the news that moves them.
• Strong mathematical competency and analytical skills.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrate effective administrative capabilities.
