Every wall and slab on this school building project in Paarl needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.
You'll be based at a school building project in Paarl. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.
What your day looks like
- Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
- Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
- Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
- Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
- Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Must-haves
- Grade 8 or higher
- A clean record is preferred for some government sites
- Prepared to travel between sites in the area
- Willing to start early, often at 06:30
- Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
- Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Nice if you have
- Previous site work you can show with a reference
- Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
- A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
On offer
- Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
- Paid weekly or fortnightly
- Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
