Lead Service Technician

Job Purpose

The Senior Lead Service Technician is responsible for functionally leading local Service Technicians onsite, troubleshooting and maintenance of turbine with a high safety standards.

The role collaborates closely with the operational and back office team to ensure a high level of availability in the wind farm which will enable high service standard for our customers and promote future company growth.

Role and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety related processes required to perform work in a safe way
• Lead the technical team onsite
• Be the point of contact to customers regarding communication on daily activities, and provide them with monthly reporting
• Responsible for maintenance, repair, and operation of wind turbines.
• Troubleshoot and repairs systems and equipment of the turbine; completes preventive maintenance and diagnoses malfunctions.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to maintenance planning schedule
• Ensure high quality reporting of daily activities, snags and maintenance tasks in accordance with internal requirements including booking of materials
• Maintain a high standard of the Service point, tools, service vans and manage the local stock
• Participate in Field training and provide knowledge transfer to colleagues within the team
• Responsible for a field of expertise and ensuring cross-border communication
• Development and implementation of operational training
• Evaluation of defect assessments and development of overarching solutions
• Consolidation and further development of technical tasks

Qualififcations and Education Requirements

Career/ Job Experience

• Vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronic fields
• GWO certification (Working at Heights, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling).
• STTL 1, 2 & 3
• 6+ years experience in the wind industry depending on experience and education
• 2+ years of leadership experience

Required Skills

• Strong leadership and communication skills
• High skill level in planning and organizing resources using Nordex systems
• Able to guide and mentor other lead technicians
• Basic knowledge of business operations and performance metrics
• Ability to work at heights and in remote locations is a must
• Nordex Competencies (Teamwork, Communications …etc)
• Physically capable to fulfill the role
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
• Extensive IT competency combined with high experience level in wind turbine IT tools
• Extensive knowledge of wind turbine component troubleshooting
• Extensive knowledge in turbine subcomponents and system diagnostics
• Good English language skills

Detailed Task List

• Guidance for other Lead Technicians in area of responsibility
• Development and implementation of operational trainings

HSE

• Follow NX and local legislation guidelines, standards and processes before starting your work activities
• Follow safety related processes required to perform work in safe way
• Lead Toolbox talks
• Daily PPE inspection (fit for work)
• Buddy check
• Ensure proper storage of PPE
• Quarantine defective PPE
• Evaluate the next steps for defective PPE
• Report incidents
• Perform internal NX vehicle inspection before use
• Ensure regular external vehicle inspection & maintenance (bring the car to the shop)
• Document weekly vehicle inspection
• Perform tasks after completing work (HSE, check-in-out, etc...)

Functional Leadership

• Functional leadership of technicians
• Evaluate technical competencies during OJD
• Support team to solve complex faults
• Giving work instruction to subcontractors or externals

Work Preparation

• Prepare work in Service Point (NC2 check, load material and tools in car, check documentation etc..)
• Identify materials and tools required to complete work
• Check if material is available in SP for short-term tasks
• Inform customers before starting work

On-Turbine Technical Work

• Set / Maintain Man on Turbine and WTG status
• Perform required job on WTG as per instructions and guides
• Autonomous fault clearance
• Ability to perform maintenance of electrical or mechanical components
• Troubleshooting
• Use of electronic test methods
• Report snags on turbines
• Perform quality inspection in PM phase (Interim operation)

Reporting & Documentation

• Fill maintenance reports
• Fill "as-built" BOM (MC serial number, software versions)
• Booking of material on WO
• Daily reporting of activities and hours in mobile field service application and relevant Nordex systems
• Releasing hours in mobile field service application
• Review and edit downtime in ART
• Review with the team what the fault is and set up a target date
• Update the initial reason for the stopped turbine in DTR tool
• Add / edit intermediate Reason in DTR

Material Management

• Managing material in SP: Goods receipt, shelving, locating materials in SP, inventory, d-part process
• Material selection and procurement
• Send back old parts (OT)
• Perform inventory
• Check the completeness of tool containers before sending them back
• Administrative tasks
