Accountant: Operational Finance (Fixed-Term)

Job Description,

A member of the PPS Mutual Operations Finance team, reporting to the Team Manager: Operational Finance. This is an Operational Finance and Reporting role responsible for financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end processes, financial analysis, reinsurance and commission accounting, and ensuring accurate and timely management reporting.

Requirements ,

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting (essential)

Experience

• 4-5 years’ experience within a financial services environment, preferably in the Insurance Industry
• Strong reconciliation experience (essential)
• Proficient in MS Office - Advanced Excel

Knowledge And Skills

• General knowledge of insurance legislation/rules (preferred)
• Exposure in dealing with members, brokers and advisors (preferred)
• Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices
• Excellent knowledge of accounting and reporting
• Excellent knowledge or risk analysis, budgeting and forecasting
• Working knowledge of financial software and MS Office
• Excellent communication and presentation skills

Duties and Responsibilities ,

Accounting and Reporting

• Prepare general ledger reconciliations.
• Analyse gross premium report for reasonability and accuracy.
• Prepare debtors reconciliation and analysis.
• Assist with Internal/External Audit queries.
• Analyse financial results and investigate variances to support management decision-making.
• Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly management reporting packs and supporting commentary.

Month-end And Daily Processes

• Prepare month end journals.
• Prepare monthly Stamp Duty calculations.
• Assist with Credit Control process.
• Assist with Super Fund process.
• Prepare member statements.

Stakeholder management

• Liaison function with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide finance-related support to the broader PPS Mutual teams.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support year-end processes, including audit requirements and query resolution.
• Manage escalations to management where required.

Governance and Compliance

• Ensure adherence to internal controls, processes, and service level agreements.
• Maintain accurate and well-organised financial documentation.

Additional Duties

• Assist with budgetary and forecast functions.
• Assume responsibility of accounting procedures.
• Respond to queries and investigations.
• Performing other duties assigned from time to time by the Team Manager.
• Perform other financial operational tasks and projects as identified
• Provide guidance and support to team members to ensure consistent performance and knowledge sharing.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation and enhanced financial controls.
