About the RoleOur client, a well-regarded educational institution in the scenic town of Mossel Bay, Western Cape, is seeking an organized and enthusiastic School Librarian and Information Resource Manager.
This role is vital for maintaining and developing the school's library collection and ensuring students and staff have access to a wide range of educational resources.
The librarian will promote reading, information literacy, and research skills among students.
This position involves a hybrid work arrangement, requiring regular on-site presence for managing the library and assisting patrons, with potential for remote work in cataloging, collection development, and administrative tasks.
We are looking for someone passionate about literature and information management.Key ResponsibilitiesManage the daily operations of the school library, including circulation, shelving, and maintaining order.Catalog new acquisitions using library management software and ensure accurate record-keeping.Develop and maintain a diverse and relevant collection of books, periodicals, and digital resources that support the curriculum and student interests.Promote library services and resources to students and staff through displays, events, and outreach activities.Teach information literacy skills, including research strategies, source evaluation, and citation methods.Assist students and staff in locating information and using library resources effectively.Organize and supervise library events, such as author visits, book clubs, and reading challenges.Manage the library budget and oversee the acquisition of new materials.Ensure the library is a welcoming, safe, and productive environment for all users.Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.RequirementsA relevant degree in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field.Previous experience working in a school library or academic library setting.Proficiency in library management systems (e.g., Destiny, Koha) and cataloging standards (e.g., MARC).
Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.Passion for promoting literacy and information literacy.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.Willingness to embrace a hybrid work model, balancing on-site library duties with remote collection management tasks.Familiarity with the Mossel Bay community and local educational context is a plus.BenefitsOur client offers a competitive salary package, up to ****** R per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
