A facilities management company in Mahikeng, North West is seeking a multi-skilled Building Maintenance Assistant to handle electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks across a portfolio of properties. The ideal candidate brings practical trade skills and a can-do attitude to every job, with experience in at least two building maintenance trades.
Responsibilities
- Clear blocked drains, replace taps and washers, repair toilet cisterns, and address minor plumbing leaks to maintain water reticulation systems.
- Touch up paintwork and perform minor painting tasks to maintain the appearance and condition of buildings and common areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, storage rooms, and external grounds.
- Report safety hazards, equipment defects, and maintenance needs to supervisors without delay.
- Repair and replace door locks, hinges, window latches, and other building hardware to ensure security and functionality of premises.
Requirements
- A valid driver's licence and own reliable transport are preferred for travelling between properties and responding to callouts.
- Good communication skills and a professional manner when interacting with tenants, clients, and contractors.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing a schedule of maintenance tasks.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose faults and determine the most effective repair approach.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, handyman work, or at least two skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
- Own basic set of hand tools appropriate for general building maintenance and repair work.
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
