Maintenance Assistant - Grain Field Chickens Abattoir, Reitz

Introduction

Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (PTY) Ltd, is a dynamic role player in the integrated broiler industry with an abattoir in Reitz in the North-Eastern Free State. The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting a qualified artisan with the day-to-day duties in a particular trade and will have sufficient relevant experience to perform the assistant work required.

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
• N2 Certificate - Electrical or Mechanical.
• Related mechanical courses done will be advantageous.
• 2 Years’ experience in a similar position in a chicken abattoir/ manufacturing plant.
• Thorough understanding of health & safety requirements.
• Basic awareness/ knowledge of Poultry Plant Machinery.
• Willingness to work overtime incl. shifts, weekends/ holidays when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Will be the assistant to the artisan with the following:

• Will be responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and sorting of the workshop.
• Limit downtime in the plant to prevent unnecessary loss of production.
• Daily inspection of all machinery and tools inside the production plant and writing a report about inspection findings.
• Ensure monthly planned maintenance on all machinery and tools are done as specified.
• Inspect conveyers continuously to ensure conveyers are operational and functional in order for production to continue.
• Repair all relevant buildings and infrastructure on request of management.
• Apply and enforce ISO / HACCP / Occupational health and safety / 20 keys in the workplace (must be aware of all the safety requirements).
• Assist with breakdowns in the plant to repair damage as soon as possible and ensure minimum breakdown time.
• To liaise with internal departments on an ongoing basis to ensure the quality of service and products.
• Perform any other duties as may be required by management.
