A renewable energy company in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal requires a Junior Electrician for its solar installation division. You will install photovoltaic panels, inverters, and battery storage systems, configure and commission systems, and provide client training on operation and monitoring. Solar industry certification and hands-on installation experience are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to plan installations and troubleshoot circuit problems.
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety regulations including lockout and tagout procedures when working on energised equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in industrial machinery, control panels, motor circuits, and building systems using testing equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed including test results, materials used, and time spent for job costing and compliance.
- Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and semi-skilled assistants, ensuring they work safely and competently.
Requirements
- Proficiency in using electrical testing instruments including multimeters, insulation testers, earth loop impedance testers, and clamp meters.
- A valid driver's licence with ability to travel to client sites as required, often carrying tools and equipment.
- For solar roles, demonstrated experience in photovoltaic system design and installation with relevant solar-specific certification.
- A recognised trade certificate in electrical engineering or national diploma in electrical engineering from a registered institution.
- A wireman's licence issued by the Department of Employment and Labour and electrical contractor registration where required.
- A minimum of three to four years of post-qualification experience in electrical installation, maintenance, or construction.
