Duties & Responsibilities
To install, diagnose, maintain and repair complex electrical, electronic, and wiring systems on heavy-duty commercial trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
- Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repair, maintain, and install vehicle and trailer electrical systems (wiring, lighting, charging systems, etc.).
- Install and maintain batteries, alternators, starters, and electronic control systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical components.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
- Test and verify repairs to ensure functionality and safety.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and work areas in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality standards.
- Assist with breakdowns and urgent repairs when required.
- Record all work completed and report faults or deviations.
- Support production or workshop teams with electrical requirements.
- Use of trade related tools and comply with the company's Health & Safety requirements.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric
- Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in the truck industry
- Truck part knowledge
- Valid driver's license (code 14 preferably)
- Valid Trade Certificate as Auto Electrician
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics
- Experience in diagnosing and repairing vehicle and equipment electrical systems.
- Experience in a manufacturing, workshop, or heavy vehicle environment (advantageous).
- Experience using diagnostic tools and test equipment
