Cost Accountant

Our client in the Wine Industry, requires the services a Cost Accountant to join their team. The role involves calculating accurate manufacturing costs to support the determination of selling prices and gross margins, ensuring accurate stock intake, and assisting with general accounting functions within the finance department.

Production Orders and Input Cost Analysis (all winehouses)

 Update Production Orders (PORs) in BC, ensuring correct stock items are consumed and produced

 Process production runs timeously

 Ensure correct costs and quantities are applied

 Query discrepancies and follow up daily/weekly on outstanding PORs

 Maintain records and compare prices of new and existing suppliers; compile supplier pricing file (Costing Masterfile)

 Analyse finished stock pricing

 Ensure accurate price build-up and margin calculations

 Ensure accurate cost reporting to support selling price determination

 Ensure finished stock costing aligns with budget and prior financial year

Review accuracy of stock counts for all winehouses

 Verify that stock counts received are correct and accurate

 Analyse variances, identify reasons for discrepancies, and report to the Cost Accountant

 Ensure 100% accurate inventory

 Ensure accurate reporting

 Support effective cost management

 Ensure compliance with company and external standard

Stock Management

 Ensure accurate reporting regardless of production wastage

 Report on cost prices for input materials (current vs budget and forecast)

 Assist with stock on hand and turnover days reporting

 Support Cost of Goods Sold (CoGS) analysis

Bulk Wine Management

 Create purchase orders and wine deliveries in WineMS for bulk wine

 Ensure accurate quantities and costs are captured on WineMS for bulk wine

 Match invoices to purchase orders and wine deliveries for bulk stock

 Ensure Fairtrade documentation for bulk wine purchases is correct and assist with quarterly reporting

 Maintain accurate bulk wine stock levels on the system

 Support accurate reporting of wine prices and margins

Sundry Areas

 Assist with ad hoc tasks and provide support across finance and operations as required, including any additional duties within the scope of the role

Compliance

 Complete quarterly Stats SA financial questionnaire

 Ensure timeous and accurate submission of data for review

The successful candidate must have

 Matric with a diploma/degree in Financial Accounting

 CIMA or SAIPA registered would be advantageous

 Must have at least 2-3 years’ experience in general cost management

 Must have Cost Accounting and Administration experience in a corporate environment

 Experience in manufacturing/ business central or wine industry will be advantageous

 Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel)

 Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

 Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills

 Excellent written & verbal communication skills

 Must have a driver’s licence and own reliable transport
